Aspiring Middle Leader Programme - Competencies for Growth

Course details

This programme is designed to prepare you for confidently applying for, and commencing, Middle Leadership. You will be introduced to the new competencies that form the foundation for the National Professional Qualification for Middle Leaders (NPQML) from 2017 onwards.

Sessions have been designed to help you understand yourself as a leader of the future, whatever your phase of education, and to increase your capacity in a number of the essential competencies. The programme also responds to your needs with an open session which will be framed around the requirements of the group.

What do you need to Lead? Exploring competencies and behaviours to succeed in the current educational landscape.

13th February 2018

Increasing your capacity for success -Self-awareness and emotional intelligence.

6th March 2018

Leading with Impact—relating to others and adaptive leadership styles.

Development of your Learning Focus project.

17th April 2018

Working in partnership—Developing relationships with all stakeholders (including parents) and your role as a team player and builder.

22nd May 2018

Working with Parents and Tricky Situations.

12th June 2018

Accountability—taking ownership and delegating. Handling difficult situations and communicating challenging messages.

Course outcomes

The programme is about growing you as an individual and increasing your capacity for high quality middle leadership. You will explore leadership models to look at how to develop successful relationships, understand and communicate with colleagues and motivate yourself and others. Woven throughout will be practical approaches that will give you confidence to step up into new roles. You will also begin using some of these new skills through the Practitioner-led Research project which is a key component of the programme helping you to be a more reflective practitioner, put your learning into practice in school and also develop your presentation skills.
