Attachment & Relationships in the classroom
There has been a growing interest in Attachment Theory in the light of more recent research on the way early experiences may shape brain development and the nature of learning.
Reviewing attachment theory and the recent research, this course explores the role of important attachments in early development. Focus is on the influence of these first relationship patterns on later behaviour and learning. The implications for working with children with individual and special educational needs are considered, alongside practical strategies for meeting their needs in school.
- Develop understanding of attachment theory and the key role played by relationships in children’s development.
- Consider factors which can impact on early attachment relationships and how this may disrupt children’s learning.
- Develop insight into signs of attachment difficulty and ways this may be communicated through behaviour.
Discuss implications for practice and strategies for responding when working with children who may have attachment difficulties
