Introduction to sensory integration

Course details

A professional development course which gives practitioners a combination of theory and practice, this training will give you the skills and confidence to develop a high quality, inclusive teaching environment. We will look at what Sensory Integration is and how it can impact on a child’s ability to access the curriculum.  We will also look at how sensory processing difficulties can affect a child’s behaviour and introduce practical examples and ideas of how to manage these difficulties in the classroom.

Course outcomes

  • Have a clear understanding of what Sensory Integration and Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) are.
  • Develop an understanding of how the sensory system develops.
  • Develop an understanding of how SPD can impact on vision, motor skills, behaviour and learning.
  • Be provided with an introduction to the basic principles of treatment approaches.

Be provided with practical activities that use sensory integration techniques to help children through everyday school environments and routines

Target Audience

Target Audience SENCOs , teachers and TA’s who have children with sensory integration difficulties (often associated with autism, learning difficulties, dyslexia, dyspraxia, attention difficulties) in their classroom. Suitable for Early Years, KS1 & 2 practioners.
