The Black Country Passport to Teaching
The BCTSC Passport to Teaching is an enhanced, quality-assured, five-day school experience programme tailored to the needs of training to teach in the Black Country.
You can access the programme at any of the BCTSC schools that offer the programme. If you are changing career, you may have difficulty in committing to five consecutive days leave, so arrangements could be made to deliver the programme over a period of time. Regardless of how you access and complete the 5-day programme, we are committed to providing five quality-assured school experience days that will introduce you to the career of teaching.
You will receive a paper copy of the Passport to Teaching School Experience Programme booklet. This will be signed by your host school and you will use this as part of your application and interview process in a BCTSC school.
In the unlikely event that you decide that teaching isn't for you, you can stop the programme at any point during the 5 days. Likewise your host school can stop the programme at any point if they feel it would not benefit you to continue.
- Successful completion of the 5-day programme will result in greater knowledge and understanding of school life and it will support you in writing an informed Personal Statement. You will also be able to answer more fully, questions relating to teaching and learning when at interview.
- Successful completion of the Passport Programme will guarantee an interview with schools that are members of the Black Country Collaborative, Passport to Teaching Programme.
Potential PGCE candidate who has not yet secured a teacher training place.
Harvills Hawthorn Primary,

I found it really useful being able to talk to a teacher that had already completed the course, and one that was just starting it; learning why they believed this was the best pathway and why they would recommend it. (potential PGCE student teacher)
I learnt all about different legislation and standards involved with teaching; got the opportunity to see how different age ranges were taught and the similarities and differences; and got a better insight into a teacher's workload. I was surprised about the amount of responsibilities the teachers' had outside of the classroom, they do not seem to ever stop! (potential PGCE student teacher)
